It had never really meant anything to me until the other day, but again I wonder how many anglers want a 3000 size Shimano spinning reel but can’t find one in stock which seems to be a perennial problem, and don’t bother thinking about the 2500 version of the reel (which is in fact the same size but of course the “Compact body” C3000 version takes a bit more line and might have a different handle etc.) because the numbering of the code leads them to believe the reel is a bit smaller and they might not want this
